LISA14 Speaker Information

We’ve created this page to help LISA14 speakers prepare for their conference experience. We look forward to seeing everyone in November.

Date and Location

LISA14 will be held November 9-14, 2014, at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel in Seattle, Washington. See the Venue page for details.

Registering for the Conference

You'll receive an email from our Conference Department with registration instructions in early September. Please note that all speakers and instructors are required to complete their own registration. If you have questions regarding registration, please email conference@usenix.org.

Speaker Benefit: All-Access Pass to LISA14 Conference Sessions

When you arrive at LISA14, your speaker badge and thank-you gift will be available at Speaker Badge Pickup. Your speaker badge will grant you access to the invited talks, panels, keynote addresses, mini-tutorials, paper presentations, poster sessions, vendor expo, Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, happy hour, off-site dinner reception, and daily lunches.

Promoting Your Talk

Please help us promote your talk and generate interest. Announce it on any social media you choose with hashtag #lisa14. Consider posting it on Facebook, Google+, and Twitter, and Lanyrd. LISA14 graphics are available below to spruce up your posts.

If you’d like to be interviewed for the USENIX blog, let us know at marketing@usenix.org.

Creating a Slide Deck

  • Download our PowerPoint Template if you would like to use it.
  • Create your slides with a ¼ inch border so nothing is cut off on the screen.
  • Note that the standard resolution for slides is 4:3, unless otherwise noted.
  • Use highly contrasting colors on your slides so the people can read them in all lighting conditions.
  • Use larger fonts whenever possible.
  • All media in your presentation — including movies & audio — will be recorded, so remember to check copyright; otherwise we may have to black out that section of your talk.
  • Review our Code of Conduct and be sure to omit any potentially offensive images or language.
  • Send your slides to slides@usenix.org, and they will be published on the Web site soon after the event.

Consent to Publish Form

Important: It is critical to sign your LISA14 Consent Form for Invited Speakers and return it to the USENIX office as soon as possible, as it creates extra work for us if we have to chase it down. You can either e-mail it to consent@usenix.org, fax to 510.548.5738, or US mail to Publications Department, USENIX Association, 2560 Ninth Street, Suite 215, Berkeley, CA 94710.

Just Before Your Presentation: Getting Ready

  • Check in with your session chair at least 15 minutes prior to your talk
  • Make contact with the AV people in the room so that you can check your laptop and presentation before your session or at one of the breaks.
  • There are usually a minimum of 2 laptop hookups at the podium with a switcher, so you can hook up your laptop early to save time.

Speaking at the Conference

  • Bring your laptop. We will provide an LCD projector, screen, microphone, cables, and extension cords.
  • Contact conference@usenix.org if you have any special AV needs or if you need to borrow a laptop.
  • Using the podium microphone is preferred as using the podium creates the best looking video. If you prefer a wireless mic, request it from the AV people in the room.
  • Computer audio is available at the podium if you need it.
  • Keep in mind the USENIX Code of Conduct and be sure to avoid any potentially offensive images or language.
  • See the helpful list of speaker tips from Pycon.

After the Presentation

If you’d like to follow your talk with a demonstration or further discussion, there may be space available in the LISA Lab. This is mostly unreserved space that you are welcome to use when available. Please contact lisa14labs@usenix.org with any questions you may have, or to reserve some space.

If you have not yet done so, email your slides to slides@usenix.org.
