White House Updates Open Access Policy

Yesterday I saw a tongue-in-cheek petition asking for the White House to intervene in a debate over a proposed new University of Kansas men's basketball team uniform. The petition called the uniforms “stylistically heinous” and said they “tarnish a venerated institution.” The petition asked the White House to “Stand up for our university, for coherent color schemes, and for the spirit of Wilt Chamberlain.”

Are you attending SCALE11x in Los Angeles this weekend? I look forward to SCALE every year and was excited to have a USENIX booth in the expo again. I think my first SCALE was five years ago when I was working at Linux Pro Magazine, and I immediately fell in love with the great community event and made a ton of friends while I was there. This year, Mother Nature called and dumped a foot of snow on lovely, Lawrence, Kansas.

USENIX Members Support Open Access

Open access to scholarly papers continues to be a hot topic, as it should be. Back in April, I wrote about the USENIX open access policy. Since 2008, USENIX papers have been freely available and USENIX authors retain their copyright.
