OSCON or Bust (& other USENIX Updates)

If you make it to OSCON in Portland next week, be sure to swing by the USENIX booth in the non-profit pavilion. During the expo, you'll find me at the USENIX booth, but after the opening reception in the Expo hall, I'll hit the pavement with other runners in the OSCON 5K. The Camp OSCON attendee party starts Tuesday evening at 6pm and Puppet Labs is also throwing a party Tuesday night. Which sessions and activities are you planning to attend next week?

In May, I wrote about taking my teen with me on business trips, and I heard from several men and women in IT who also travel with kids in tow. While I'm at the USENIX booth at OSCON, my kid will be participating in the Greenlight for Girls Mission to Mars robotics program in booth 220. I can't wait to hear how that goes.

I know that attending tech events simply isn't in everyone's budget, which is why I recently wrote an article for SmartBear: How to Attend Tech Events on a Budget. Obviously we'd love to see you attend USENIX events, but this article offers tips for saving bucks on almost any conference. If you have other tips for frugal conference travel, let us know in the comments here or the article comments.
