Back from Texas Linux Fest, Gearing Up for FCW'13 and OSCON

In addition to being a media sponsor for Texas Linux Fest 2013, USENIX had a booth on the expo floor earlier this month. I've wanted to attend TXLF since it started, but the schedule never worked out for me before. I was not disappointed.

While hanging out at the USENIX booth, I got to see a bunch of familiar faces and made new friends, including Keila Banks, whom I'd interviewed for our blog. If you missed her lightening talk at TXLF, you can catch her speaking at USENIX Federated Conferences Week later this month. Keila will be giving her Free to Be a Kid talk at the 2013 USENIX Women in Advanced Computing Summit.

I also spoke at TXLF and will be speaking again at OSCON in Portland next month. Nate Willis wrote up a thorough report of my talk, How to Recruit, Hire, and Retain a Diverse Team, which you can read on LWN.net. (If you want to attend OSCON next month at a reduced rate, save 20% off registration with my super-secret discount code: RIKKI. **Expo hall pass not included.) If you make it to OSCON, be sure to stop by the USENIX booth and pick up an issue of ;login: magazine, too.

The 2013 USENIX Federated Conferences Week is rapidly approaching and it's not too late to register. FCW'13 is shaping up to be a power-packed event, but even if you can't make it in person, you can still participate. We'll offer live streaming from HotStorage '13 and our 3rd USENIX Configuration Management Summit (UCMS'13). USENIX members save $$ off the live streaming, so take advantage of the discount (and other member benefits) by joining our community.

Here's some of what's happening at FCW '13:

(And don't forget that we offer open access to past conference proceedings and videos on our website.)
