Workshops, Training Program, and BoFs

Workshops

Are you looking for in-depth technical discussions? If so, workshops are for you.

Workshops are half-day or full-day sessions for small groups (typically no more than 30 people) to share ideas and tactics in a broad technical area. These sessions are facilitated by a moderator but the specific discussions are led by attendees. Workshops are intended to be participatory, not instructional, and familiarity with the specific topic/area is expected of the attendees.

We welcome workshop proposals. Proposals are in the form of a 1-page description including the following information:

  • Title
  • Organizer name(s) and contact information
  • Potential attendee profile
  • Why a LISA attendee would register for this workshop and possible takeaways
  • Outline of potential topics

Workshop proposals are due April 30, 2013. Please email your proposal to [email protected].

Training Program

LISA offers state-of-the-art tutorials from top experts in the fields. Classes range from introductions to highly advanced technical deep-dives. You can choose from over 50 full- and half-day tutorials on such diverse technical topics as: configuration management; Linux administration and high availability; topics in specialized administration and performance tuning; virtualization; Perl; Python; Samba; system and network services, monitoring, visualization and troubleshooting; security; filesystems; backups; server configuration; spam prevention and monitoring; legal issues; and professional development topics such as management, communication, documentation.

To provide the best possible tutorial offerings, USENIX continually solicits proposals and ideas for new tutorials, especially on subjects not yet covered. If you are interested in presenting a tutorial or have an idea for a tutorial you would like to see offered, please submit. Multiple proposals are always welcome. We would rather you let us choose which of your tutorials we need, rather than your submitting only your one "best" tutorial. Unbiased vendor tutorials are also encouraged. Occasionally, USENIX offers multi-day tutorials; while less common, if you have a 2-day class idea, don't hesitate to let us know about it!

Each tutorial proposal should consist of:

  • Title
  • Length (half-day or full-day)
  • Instructor name(s) and contact information
  • Abstract or outline of topic

Tutorial proposals are due April 30, 2013. Please email your proposal to [email protected].

Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions (BoFs)

Birds-of-a-Feather sessions (BoFs) are informal gatherings organized by attendees interested in a particular topic. BoFs will be held in the evening. BoFs may be scheduled in advance by emailing [email protected]. BoFs may also be scheduled at the conference.
