Synnefo: A Complete Cloud Stack over Ganeti

Author(s):

Vangelis Koukis, Constantinos Venetsanopoulos, and Nectarios Koziris

Synnefo is a complete open source cloud stack that provides Compute, Network, Image, Volume and Storage services, similar to the ones offered by AWS. In this article, we describe Synnefo’s overall architecture, its interaction with Ganeti, and the benefits of decoupling the cloud from the cluster layer. We focus on Synnefo’s handling of files, images, and VM volumes in an integrated way and discuss advantages when choosing Synnefo to deliver a private or public cloud. We conclude with our experiences from running a real-world production deployment on Synnefo.
