USENIX Call for Nominees, 2020 Election for Board of Directors

The USENIX Board Nominating Committee seeks engaged, resourceful, and visionary leaders who will chart the future of the USENIX Association.

The biennial election of the USENIX Board of Directors will be held in the spring of 2020. This election determines the composition of the entire Board, including four officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as well as four members-at-large. All eight directors stand for re-election every two years. Newly elected directors will take office at the conclusion of the first regularly scheduled meeting following the election or on July 1, 2020, whichever comes earlier.

The USENIX Board serves as the strategic arm of the organization, pairing with the Executive Director and USENIX staff to deliver excellent technical programming and support a wide variety of communities. The makeup of the Board should represent the diversity of communities within USENIX. Ensuring this diversity is one of the roles of the Nominating Committee when they assemble a slate of candidates for the election.

Please consider recommending individuals for the Board election slate who:

  • Are leaders or potential leaders of a community that USENIX already serves, or of new and emerging communities that USENIX should serve.
  • Are informed and active in shaping new technologies and/or tracking emerging trends.
  • Have creative visions of how USENIX should evolve to serve existing and new constituencies.
  • Are energetic, committed, and excited about putting their ideas into practice.
  • Strongly support equality, diversity, and inclusion, and understand and follow the USENIX Code of Conduct (CoC).
  • Are willing to make a substantial commitment of time to USENIX.
  • Are committed to furthering the USENIX mission and planning for the long-term sustainability of the organization.

Self-nominations are welcome. If you are considering offering yourself for the Board slate, please keep in mind that membership on the Board of USENIX is real work, never trivial, and a great place to make a difference. You should have fortitude, vision, the ability to work well with others, and a thorough understanding of some topic area that USENIX covers.

If you think you might be interested in running or have suggestions for nominees or comments on current Board members, please contact us at nominate@usenix.org by November 1, 2019. The Nominating Committee will consider all recommendations, though it is not guaranteed that all submitted names will make it onto the Board election slate. All correspondence will be held in confidence.
