Abstract: 

WordPress is a well-established and popular open source Content Management System. Normally taking care of a WordPress website should be the responsibility of a content manager and a front end developer, but if you're IT and you're "it," what do you do? This class will cover WordPress basics as well as maintenance, troubleshooting, and when it's time to call in a (different) professional.

Dash Buck began developing WordPress websites in early 2014. They give their clients the ability to confidently communicate with developers. Dash lives in Seattle with two adorable cats and one adorable human. When not coding, Dash reads, parolas en Esperanto, and yells excitedly about science facts. Who should attend: 

Sysadmins of any level who have to administer WordPress sites of any kind. Those that administer to websites in general and Content Management Systems specifically will also gain some value from this course, but there will be a lot of WordPress specific information. Non-coders and coders welcome.

Take back to work: 

Sysadmins who complete this class will be able to administer to the WordPress sites in their care. They will be able to handle 80% of WordPress error states. They will also be able to update WordPress software and site content. The tutorial materials will include links and possibly files that can be given to site owners/users for reference, to cut down on low-level questions being escalated to IT.

  • SEO, accessibility, mobile/responsive, HTTPS, etc: what these things are and why they matter to front end developers
