Call for Papers
Sponsored by USENIX, the Advanced Computing Systems Association
HotPower '14, the 2014 Workshop on Power-Aware Computing and Systems, will be co-located with the 11th USENIX Symposium on Operating Systems Design and Implementation (OSDI ’14) and take place on Sunday, October 5, 2014.
- Paper submissions due: July 25, 2014—Deadline extended!
- Notification to authors: September 1, 2014
- Final paper files due: September 24, 2014
Steering Committee Chair
HotPower provides a forum in which to present the latest research and to debate directions, challenges, and novel ideas about building energy-efficient computing systems. In addition, researchers coming from diverse fields such as computer architecture, systems and networking, measurement and modeling, language and compiler design, mobile computing, and embedded systems will have the opportunity to interact with one another, explore cross-cutting ideas, and develop new perspectives from the interactions.
The workshop seeks submissions of early-stage research and novel ideas that will generate interesting discussion, e.g., unconventional, promising ideas with early results. Submissions about firsthand experience, lessons, challenges and problems from building and operating real-world systems are also welcome.
Topics of interest in energy-efficient computing include but are not limited to:
- Instrumentation and measurement of power, performance, efficiency and trade-offs
- Energy-efficiency metrics and benchmarks
- Software optimization, application design
- System-level optimization, cross-layer coordination
- Scheduling, run-time adaptation, feedback control
- Efficient processor, network, storage hardware and power-aware computer architecture
- Reliability and power management
- Analysis and solutions at different levels—server, datacenter, and embedded systems
- Renewable energy sources, energy storage technologies
- Sustainability and life-cycle analysis
Submitted papers must be no longer than five single-spaced 8.5" x 11" pages, including figures, tables, and references, two-column format, using 10-point type on 12-point (single-spaced) leading, in a text block 6.5" wide x 9" deep. Author names and affiliations should appear on the title page. If you wish, use the USENIX LaTeX or Word templates from the USENIX templates page.
All papers must be in PDF format and must be submitted through the Web submission form.
All papers will be available online to registered attendees before the conference. If your accepted paper should not be published prior to the event, please notify firstname.lastname@example.org. The papers will be available online to everyone beginning on the day of the conference, October 5, 2014.
Papers accompanied by nondisclosure agreement forms will not be considered. All submissions will be treated as confidential prior to publication on the USENIX HotPower '14 Web site; rejected submissions will be permanently treated as confidential.
Simultaneous submission of the same work to multiple venues, submission of previously published work, or plagiarism constitutes dishonesty or fraud. USENIX, like other scientific and technical conferences and journals, prohibits these practices and may, on the recommendation of a program chair, take action against authors who have committed them. See the USENIX Conference Submissions Policy for details.
By submitting a paper, you agree that at least one of the authors will attend the conference to present it. If the conference registration fee will pose a hardship for the presenter of the accepted paper, please contact email@example.com.
If your paper is accepted and you need an invitation letter to apply for a visa to attend the conference, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as possible. (Visa applications can take at least 30 working days to process.) Please identify yourself as a presenter and include your mailing address in your email.
