NSDI '18 Instructions for Authors and Speakers

These instructions are for those who will be presenting material at the 15th USENIX Symposium on Networked Systems Design and Implementation (NSDI '18). If you wish to submit a paper or deliver a talk at another upcoming USENIX event, please see the Conferences page to find the conference you're interested in.

Visa

If you need an invitation letter to apply for a visa to attend the conference, please contact conference@usenix.org as soon as possible. (Visa applications can take at least 30 working days to process.) Please identify yourself as a presenter and include your mailing address in your email.

Instructions for Authors of Refereed Papers

  1. Final Papers: A printable PDF of your paper is due on or before Wednesday, February 21, 2018. Final papers should be no longer than 12 pages including footnotes, figures, and tables. References are not included in the page limit. In addition, you may include an appendix which is no longer than 2 pages.
    • This is a hard deadline, no extensions will be granted.
    • Every paper will be assigned a shepherd that ensures that key concerns of the program committee are addressed in the revision process. You must coordinate revisions to your paper with your shepherd and give the shepherd a final version of your paper by Saturday, February 10, 2018. In addition, you must obtain approval from your shepherd before uploading the final camera-ready version of the document to the system.
    • Papers should be typeset in two-column format in 10-point Times Roman type on 12-point leading (single-spaced), with the text block being no more than 6.5" wide by 9" deep.
    • Templates and sample first pages (two-column format) for Microsoft Word and LaTeX are available on the USENIX templates page.
    • Upload your final paper to the submissions system by February 21, 2018. If you have questions, please contact Michele Nelson: michele@usenix.org.
  2. Production Requirements:
    • Title and author certification: The final PDF's title and author information, including author order and affiliation, must exactly match the information entered into HotCRP. Please make sure this information is correct and check the Title and Author Certification checkbox.
    • Please embed all fonts and make sure that your final paper PDF is searchable.
    • Page numbers must be suppressed on the final PDF.
  3. Consent Form: USENIX requires a signed consent form from each author of a refereed paper. To review the consent form and sign with an electronic signature, follow this link and read the instructions on the screen. If you are the lead author, please make sure all of your co-authors sign a form.
  4. Registration: Registration information will be available in late December. Please note: If the conference registration fee poses a financial hardship for the presenter of the refereed paper, please contact conference@usenix.org.
  5. Presentations: Talk duration is 20 minutes for the talk and 5 minutes for Q&A. We will provide the following equipment:
    • 1 LCD projector
    • 1 screen
    • 1 wired Lavalier microphone
    • cables and extension cords
    Please note: laptops are not provided.
    Slides should set up for a 16:9 aspect ratio. In order to make your presentation available on the USENIX Web site immediately after the conference, please email a PDF of your slides to slides@usenix.org as soon as possible after your presentation.
  6. All papers will be available online to registered attendees before the conference. If your accepted paper should not be published prior to the event, please notify production@usenix.org. The papers will be available online to everyone beginning on the first day of the conference.

Instructions for Invited Speakers and Panelists

  1. The USENIX Conference Department will contact you with instructions for registering online. We will provide the following equipment:
    • 1 LCD projector
    • 1 screen
    • 1 wired Lavalier microphone
    • cables and extension cords
    Please note: laptops are not provided; if you will be unable to bring a laptop and need to arrange to borrow one, or if you wish to discuss any special A/V needs, please contact the Conference Department via email at conference@usenix.org or via phone at 510-528-8649.
