SREcon18 Europe/Middle East/Africa Birds-of-a-Feather Sessions (BoFs)

SREcon18 Europe/Middle East/Africa BoF Schedule

Lead or attend a BoF! Meet with your peers! Present new work! Don't miss these special activities designed to maximize the value of your time at the conference. Birds-of-a-Feather sessions are very informal gatherings of persons interested in a particular topic.

Vendor BoFs

Want to demonstrate a new product or discuss your company's latest technologies with SREcon18 Europe attendees? Host a Vendor BoF! These sponsored one-hour sessions give companies a chance to talk about products and proprietary technology—and they include promotional benefits. Email sponsorship@usenix.org if you're interested in sponsoring a Vendor BoF.

Scheduling a BoF

It's not too late! To schedule a BoF, simply write the BoF title as well as your name and affiliation on the BoF board located in the registration area. BoF Descriptions

SRE Author Q&A
Wednesday, 29 August, 20:00–21:00, Rheinlandsdaal Ballroom A
Q&A session with the following authors:

SRE Training
Thursday, 30 August, 20:00–21:00, Hegel Room
Organizer: Jennifer Petoff, Google Ireland
A discussion on how to best get your SREs up to speed. This is relevant both to training new engineers on your organisation's systems, as well as to instilling good SRE practices in junior engineers or those who come to SRE from different roles.

Prometheus and OpenMetrics Monitoring
Thursday, 30 August, 19:00–20:00, Hegel Room
Organizer: Ben Kochie, GitLab Monitoring Lead, Prometheus Team Member
In this BoF we will discuss metrics-based monitoring, Prometheus, and how you can use metrics to fulfill your SRE monitoring needs. Prometheus is a metrics-based monitoring system, providing application and system metrics and metrics-based alerting. It grew out of the needs of SREs. Prometheus has also spawned the OpenMetrics project, a vendor neutral standard for application metrics.

SRE Approach to Supporting Single Tenant Environments at Scale
Thursday, 30 August, 19:00–20:00, Leibniz Room
Organizer: Jason Wik, VMware, Inc.
Open discussion on solving the challenge of applying common SRE principles and tools to support thousands of uniquely configured single tenant environments. Implementing Alert Correlation and AI principles to improve automation and the quality of escalated alerts.
