What happens when the philosophical aspirations of differential privacy collide with practical reality? Reflecting on seven years of experience building and deploying differential privacy systems at Google, I will describe in this talk some of the ways in which a focus on worst-case outcomes both enables and discourages an honest accounting of privacy risk.
