About GREPSEC
GREPSEC is a workshop for Ph.D. students in computer security and privacy who intend to pursue a research career. It is designed to promote sustained success in the field by giving participating students a broad view of current research topics and encouragement as they begin conducting research.
The workshop is structured for students studying in environments with fewer opportunities for mentorship and access to colleagues. It will focus on research talks, mentoring activities, and social and networking sessions. GREPSEC places particular emphasis on mentorship and community-building, recognizing that many Ph.D. students face challenges related to isolation, limited access to mentors, or uncertainty about career paths. The program provides opportunities for informal engagement with senior researchers to discuss research directions, professional development, and career opportunities. Speakers will be invited based on their research accomplishments and their demonstrated commitment to effective mentorship.
Participation is open to all Ph.D. students in the field of computer security and privacy. The workshop is designed to make the landscape of security and privacy research familiar and accessible to students of all backgrounds.
Attending GREPSEC VII

There is NO REGISTRATION FEE for attendees who are accepted to the GREPSEC workshop. Students from US-based institutions who are accepted to the GREPSEC workshop will be eligible for travel grants; funding may also be available for a few international students.
Space is limited, and an application is required for all potential attendees. GREPSEC applicants should be graduate students working toward their Ph.D. and doing research (toward eventual publication) in security and privacy.
GREPSEC is scheduled for the August 10–11, immediately preceding the 35th USENIX Security Symposium and taking place concurrently with the 20th USENIX WOOT Conference on Offensive Technologies (WOOT ‘26) and the 4th USENIX Symposium on Vehicle Security and Privacy (VehicleSec ‘26).
GREPSEC attendees are also encouraged to apply for a grant to attend USENIX Security '26. Grants are competitive, and cover partial hotel and registration. Applicants interested in attending USENIX Security ‘26 must apply for a USENIX Security Symposium grant by the July 6, 2026, deadline. Grant applications will go live when USENIX Security '26 registration opens soon.
