The next morning, I got the info I needed and called back. Was told that they couldnít do the trace (though this is the same group I had been talking to the night before) and forwarded me to the security group.
I tried my mantra with them, they didnít understand it.
The security group eventually informed me that they couldnít do the trace without a court order. Privacy of our customers and all that.
I thought that the bit about protecting customer privacy was silly, given that we *could* pay for caller ID and get the info without a court order (assuming it wasn't blocked), and we had been told previously that we could get ANI/ALI (Automatic Name/Line
Soon after I got off the phone, the cracker (finally) hung up, 36 hours after the call started. I imagine that he got tired of waiting for us to complete the trace :-)
