An Invitation from the Program Chair

Dear Colleague,

The BSD community has a long history of innovative research, open exchange of ideas, and collaborative work. From its start at UC Berkeley to today, the people of this community have always been accessible and supportive. BSDCon continues in this tradition, bringing together many of the core developers for four days of technical papers, invited talks, tutorials, Birds-of-a-Feather sessions, Work-in-Progress reports, and general hobnobbing.

Join us for discussions and presentations about the design and implementation of BSD-based systems software. This year's program features keynote presentations by John Mashey of Sensei Partners and Brett Halle of Apple Computer, together with an impressive collection of refereed papers and invited talks. Learn about the latest developments in Mac OS X, multiprocessor support in the FreeBSD kernel, and advances in networking and filesystems. A special session on the first day will present status of the various BSD projects and finish up with a round-table discussion of future plans.

For those looking to expand their knowledge about BSD, we are pleased to offer tutorials on kernel internals, debugging kernel problems, system and network security, and porting BSD applications to Mac OS X. These full-day sessions provide in-depth, immediately useful instruction in the latest techniques, effective tools, and best strategies. They are presented by acknowledged experts in the BSD and Open Source communities.

This promises to be an exciting conference. Whether you want to expand your knowledge of BSD or just meet the movers and shakers of the BSD community, BSDCon is the place to be! Please join us in beautiful San Francisco, California, on February 11-14, 2002.
