Abstract:

During the past several years, I experienced changes and stresses in my personal and professional life, leading to burnout. This happened despite being aware of the risks, and well-established self-care methods that I've used continuously for decades weren't able to prevent what happened. I hope that sharing my story will help others facing similar challenges.

I’m the CTO and founder of VividCortex, the best way to see what your production database servers are doing. I’ve written a lot of open source software, and several books including High Performance MySQL. I’ve focused my work on learning and teaching about scalability, performance, and observability of systems generally (including the view that teams are systems and culture influences their performance), and databases specifically.
