USENIX Call for Nominees, 2018 Election for Board of Directors

The USENIX Board Nominating Committee seeks your aid in identifying talented, energetic, creative, and visionary leaders who will chart the future of the USENIX Association.

The biennial election of the USENIX Board of Directors will be held in the spring of 2018. This election determines the composition of the entire Board, including four officers (President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as well as four members-at-large. All eight directors stand for re-election every two years. Newly elected directors will take office at the conclusion of the first regularly scheduled meeting following the election or on July 1, 2018, whichever comes earlier.

The vibrant health of USENIX and the technical strength of its offerings stem substantially from the vigor and vision of its Board. Accordingly, the USENIX Bylaws mandate the appointment of a Nominating Committee, whose charter is to present a strong slate of candidates for the election. (Direct nominations from the membership are also accepted; instructions on how to do this will be posted on the USENIX Web site in December 2017.) This slate contains recommendations for all officers, as well as potentially more than four members-at-large. The Board slate is normally a combination of current Board members and people new to the Board.

Please help us shape the future of USENIX by self-nominating or recommending dynamic individuals who:

  • Are leaders or potential leaders of the various communities that USENIX already serves, or are leaders or potential leaders of new and emerging communities that USENIX should serve.
  • Are informed and active in shaping new technologies and/or tracking emerging trends.
  • Have creative visions of how USENIX should evolve to serve existing and new constituencies.
  • Are energetic, committed, and excited about putting their ideas into practice.
  • Represent diverse industry, academic, and government interests, perspectives, and needs, as well as diverse populations of USENIX members, including diversity in age, career, and interests.
  • Are willing to make a substantive commitment of time to managing and tracking USENIX's many activities and projects.
  • Are committed to furthering the USENIX mission and planning for the long-term sustainability of the organization, including participation in fundraising efforts.

Self-nominations are welcome. If you are considering offering yourself for election, please keep in mind that membership on the Board of USENIX is real work, never trivial, and a great place to make a difference. You should have fortitude, vision, the ability to work well with others, and a thorough understanding of some topic area that USENIX covers.

If you think you might be interested in running or have suggestions for nominees or comments on current Board members, please contact us at by November 13, 2017. All correspondence will be held in confidence.
