Abstract:

As a masters student in computer science I feel that it is important for me to become familiar with all aspects of the computing field. Most of my experience has been with UNIX and related software, however, it is clear the Windows NT is making inroads into areas formerly dominated by UNIX. I will be entering the work-force soon and feel it is very important that I find out more about the internals of Windows NT so I can make judgments and comparisons based on facts rather than advertising hype.

I am specifically interested in how Windows NT differs from UNIX and if these differences result in better overall performance. In the case where similar design choices were made, I would like to know if there are similar problems and benefits. As mentioned above, I would like some concrete results which will allow me to make reasonable judgments. A technical conference is the place to find such information..

It is inevitable that I will encounter Windows NT in my professional career. It would be irresponsible for me not to take this opportunity to find out as much as possible from the people who know when given the chance. ---
