Abstract:
Research in the Architecture half of MRL focuses on microarchitectural enhancements
and features that will "drive the IA32 architecture into the next century" (I
didn't make that up -- honest!). We're beginning to move some of our processor
and platform simulations from Unix to NT, partly to take advantage of the computing
power in our desktop boxes (we run NT on our Pentium-Pro workstations) and partly
to take advantage of the software development environment. We will soon be using
simulation pools of NT boxes.

Learning about others' experiences using NT as a research platform may be useful
in our own research efforts, and it may help us in supporting the academic research
that we sponsor.
