Abstract:

Our company is currently implementing Data Warehouse in a Windows NT system. This project is primarily designed for analyzing sales, human resources, and inventory data for the previous few years. We will use the data to generate reports that will be used for forecasting the future needs and marking strategies. For our company, we use Windows NT as the primary operating system for Data Warehouse because NT can provide a better user interface and better bridge between UNIX and Windows environment. The data is currently stored in an IBM RS6000 machine. The data format is Universe Database, but we have converted parts of the data into Microsoft SQL database format. We are also using some third party tools to analyze the converted SQL data. These third part tools were built for generic analytic purposes in which they may not be able to accomplish some of the tasks when we have fully implemented the Data Warehouse. Therefore, we have to build some applications to perform some specific tasks. Instead of analyzing that past data, we will step forward to manipulate the live data in the RS6000 from the NT. This will provide some up-to-date information to the top management and this may become part of our Intranet in the future.
