Abstract:
The Office of Information Technology supports researchers in the science departments, the College of Engineering, the Center for Photonics, and others. Our Scientific Computing and Visualization group provides specialized computing and communication resources geared towards research and education in computational science and engineering, scientific visualization, computer graphics and other disciplines which have high-performance computing requirements. We anticipate considerable growth in the use of NT by researchers in these areas, displacing some current use of UNIX. At this workshop I hope to gain knowledge which will help us support this transition effectively. Topics of interest include porting of UNIX applications to NT, scalability of NT in distributed applications, instrumentation of NT applications and distributed services as regards scalability, large scale distributed systems management, and use of NT in real-time and laboratory applications.
