Abstract:

Here is how I wish & dream to use NT Server in the workplace:

Two years ago I went through a year long CAD Certification Program @ The University Of Washington through their Evening Extension program. The Program was for Architects, Landscape Architects, and Engineers. Upon successful completion it was my wish & goal to someday be able to offer and provide Remote Network Administration Services to the local community here in Seattle, in particular, begin to offer services to contacts I made in my program of studies. Since my Background is in Horticulture, i.e., in this case landscape Architecture, I approached a number of Firms & Companies that expressed in interest in this possibility and have been able to take my journey one step further. The way that NT fits into this is simple..... I am pre-dominatly a Mobile Computing Professional running Server on my Laptop - and I approach my services as a remote user, first hand sort of speak. In doing this:

It gives me flexibility as needed

It allows me to pursue fulltime Computer Science Studies @ The University

It opens up the window to work for more companies as a consultant, part time systems administrator.

It provides me with the environment to work regionally as well - as I have clientele in Marin County California.

As the possibilities of NT Remote access are quite attractive - and getting better all the time - I will be better able to utilize incorporated tools and get further away from the `Hard-copy / permanent office setting' and become a specialist in what I see as a very lucrative form of Network Administration. The possibilities in this area are opening up exponentially - especially since Integraph's announcement in this month's NT Magazine that they plan to move from their existing Native UNIX platform to NT... Integraph has a hand in CAD Software.., in fact it is their support of Bentleys Microstation that is giving Autodesk's AutoCad a serious run for the money...
