James D Howard, Intel Corporation

Abstract:

I work in a group chartered to assist application vendors (ISVs) in the ECAD/EDA industry migrate applications onto Intel-based systems - esp. those running Windows/NT. This family of applications often involves ports from various UNIX/RISC platforms onto NT, and my work here at Intel (& at my recently-prior employer Mentoer Graphics) involves NT <-> UNIX interoperability, porting aids, file system and network interoperability, assessing various GUI porting strategies, etc. I have also been a very active Windows/NT beta site, and a tester of various NT <-> UNIX interoperabilty features like NFS clients, X servers, UNIX-like editors, GNU tools, etc. My background includes having written several commercial ECAD/EDA applications in Pascal, C and C++, plus (formerly) being a member of the ANSI C++ committee.
