Filtering Spam in Mozilla Thunderbird

  1. Start Thunderbird.

    For information about how to start Thunderbird, see Accessing Thunderbird.

  2. If you have not already done so, set up your Thunderbird account.

    For more information, see Setting Up Your Mail Account.

  3. In the main Thunderbird window, make sure your Zimlink (imap.uz.edu) account is selected in the list on the left.
  4. Choose Tools → Message Filters.

    The Message Filters dialog box appears.

  5. Click the New button.

    The Filter Rules dialog box appears.

  6. Type Spamassassin for the filter name.
  7. Choose Customize from the Subject pull-down menu.

    The Customize Headers dialog box appears.

  8. Type X-Spam-Level as the header name and click Add, then click OK.
  9. In the Filter Rules dialog box, select X-Spam-Level at the bottom of the Subject pull-down menu.
  10. In the third field (to the right of the second field that shows the word "contains"), type five asterisks (*****).
  11. In the "Perform these actions" section of the dialog box, select Move to Folder and click New Folder.

    The New Folder dialog box appears.

  12. Type Junk for the name of the folder, and make sure that the Inbox of your Zimlink account (imap.uz.edu) is selected as the containing folder. Then click OK.
  13. Select the Junk folder as the folder to which messages should be moved, and click OK.
  14. Close the Message Filters dialog box by clicking the Close button (X) in the title bar.
